The Bowsprit Bar @ The Harbour Cottage Inn brings a touch of coastal Maine charm to Southwest Harbor, offering a setting that feels right at home in this picturesque seaside community. Located at 9 Dirigo Rd, Southwest Harbor, ME 04679, United States, this spot is tucked into an area known for its working waterfront, relaxed pace, and welcoming small-town atmosphere. Whether you're exploring Mount Desert Island or looking for somewhere to unwind after a day outdoors, the location makes it an interesting place to discover.

One of the appealing things about a bar connected to a traditional inn is the possibility of a more intimate, laid-back experience compared with a busy restaurant. The Bowsprit Bar @ The Harbour Cottage Inn fits naturally into Southwest Harbor's quieter coastal character, where visitors often appreciate places that feel connected to the community rather than overly commercial. It's the kind of setting where a casual conversation, a refreshing drink, and an unhurried evening can be just as important as what's on the menu.

When considering the dining experience, the food and beverage selection is naturally a major factor. While a current, verified menu for The Bowsprit Bar @ The Harbour Cottage Inn isn't readily available, the surrounding Maine food scene provides plenty of reasons for curiosity. Fresh seafood, locally inspired appetizers, seasonal ingredients, and thoughtfully prepared comfort food are all familiar features of dining around Mount Desert Island. Anyone planning a visit should check the latest menu directly rather than assume particular dishes or drinks are available.

Atmosphere and service also make a big difference when choosing a neighborhood bar or casual dining destination. A comfortable seating arrangement, friendly staff, sensible pacing, and attention to small details can turn a simple evening out into a memorable experience. For a place like The Bowsprit Bar @ The Harbour Cottage Inn, those qualities are especially relevant because Southwest Harbor attracts both vacationers and people who value the easygoing rhythm of local life. Checking recent customer reviews can help clarify what guests think about hospitality, drink selection, food quality, and overall value.

The restaurant's location is another practical advantage worth considering. Southwest Harbor offers a quieter alternative to the busier parts of Mount Desert Island, while remaining convenient for travelers exploring the Acadia National Park region. After a day of sightseeing, boating, or walking along the waterfront, a nearby bar can be an appealing option for relaxing without making elaborate evening plans. Since operating hours, seasonal availability, and dining arrangements may change, confirming these details before visiting is worthwhile, particularly during Maine's quieter travel months when some hospitality businesses adjust their schedules.

What People's Say About Place

We stayed at the Harbour Cottage Inn as guests. Our first night in, we were in need of dinner, and the Bowsprit Bar did not disappoint. We sat on the patio on a wonderful evening. The bar's popularity and the lovely weather brought out many locals. The menu is limited in offerings, but not in flavor. We enjoyed the fish sliders and the signature flatbread with all toppings. Both items were perfect and more than enough food. We were sad that they had just run out of the strawberry crisp due to the unexpectedly large amount of locals at the bar. If you are in Southwest Harbor, make time to visit this lovely establishment!

While staying at the Harbour Cottage Inn, I had the opportunity to dine at their on-site restaurant for dinner one evening. Since it was a pleasant evening, I decided to sit on the patio and take in the crisp, cool air. I was surprised at how extensive the menu was with a ton of seasonal options and chef recommendations. I started with a wine tasting flight which allowed me to pick any four wines I wanted to sample. I was hungry, but not starving, so I opted to start with the grilled halloumi toastie, which was essentially a sophisticated open-face grilled cheese. The halloumi was salty and tangy, and paired well with the fresh pesto. Still hungry after my toastie, I decided to order the fresh seared scallops. These were some of the most mouthwatering and delicious scallops I have ever had in my life. Everything about this inn and especially the restaurant, the Bowspirit, was incredible. The service was friendly and attentive, warm and welcoming. Even if you are not staying at this accommodation, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend giving the Bowspirit a try.

We loved our drinks and dinner on the patio at this quiet gem in Southwest Harbor. Our cocktails (Bowspritzer and Wavy Dodger) were well-balanced, refreshing, creative, and paired beautifully with the food. We had the flatbread (garlic and oil with red pepper ricotta and sausage) and the caprese salad. The burrata was creamy, the pesto fresh, and the marinated tomatoes juicy and piquant. And for shared plates, the portions are quite generous.

Delicious food and cocktails in a historic setting! Small plates, shareable dishes were just what we needed after our adventures on MDI. Nora and Daniel are great hosts!

My girlfriend and I ordered a charcuterie board, cocktails, and the potato croquettes and salmon spread. Everything was delicious! The ambience is top notch and the music was classy and romantic. Dora, our server, could not have been more generous or attentive. This place seems like a hidden gem. Cannot recommend it enough!

What a delightful discovery. Food is delicious and carefully prepared. The staff are very good and what is more the portions are human sized, not the usual American frightening heap you should never finish. An amazing discovery, well worth a visit. Lovely wine selection!

Here you will be delighted by the wine and cheese boards but without a doubt the duck wings are a must! Major compliments to the chef and team for an amazing night of food. The atmosphere was intimate and very accessible Dora and her team took the utmost care of us and we couldn’t be happier. This is a true gem that will stand out amongst all the rest. Thank you for everything.

Welcoming and personal. Dora was a wonderful host! The flatbread was delicious. The breakfast was tasty. A perfect balance before a day hike.
